Korio is a small deli situated in Far East Square selling mainly sandwiches, donuts and coffee. I’ve read many rave reviews about the food here and as a result, I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to give it a go for the longest time (and by that, I mean YEARS). It’s been tough to catch them during their limited opening hours on weekdays due to work and I’m not an early riser to begin with (waking up early on a Saturday and travelling all the way there for a sandwich just never seemed sufficiently justified). There was once I came so close when I was in the vicinity with friends, but the queue was too long and we didn’t have time to spare.
Finally, my chance was here when my husband and I had a stay planned at The Clan Hotel, which was right next door! There was the option to do a pre-order before dropping by to pick it up but by the time I checked, all those slots were taken up. We decided to try our luck and walk in anyway π

- Our order:
- Biggie Croque ($18)
- Breakfast Sammy ($14)
- Spent: SGD$32
There was no visible queue when we arrived (unlike the previous time I passed by) but that was likely because people had taken their queue numbers and made themselves comfortable at the functional seating areas. True enough, we were informed that the wait time was 20 to 25 minutes minimum. Once our orders were ready for collection, the staff at the counter called out our names just like they do at Starbucks.

First up was our Biggie Croque order that comprised smoked turkey ham, bechamel, cheddar, swiss cheese, caramelized onions, mustard and brioche bread (I requested to change out the whole-wheat sourdough for this). Every bite was a mouthful of goodness, you can’t go wrong with this classic pairing of ham and cheese. The brioche was soft and buttery as well, yum!
We then moved on to our Breakfast Sammy order, which had crispy spam, sauce gribiche, chives, American cheese and brioche bread. The sauce gribiche was nice and fragrant! My only gripe was that the spam made the whole sandwich taste way too salty.

My overall rating of the experience: 4 out of 5 stars. The sandwiches are as good as the reviews said they’d be, full of comforting and tasty goodness on top of being unexpectedly filling too (it was good enough as our lunch). Although this deli seems to be known more for its handmade donuts, these sandwiches can definitely hold their own. The tricky part is even getting your hands on the food here if you don’t work in the area or are unable to accommodate potentially long wait times. Do check for their most updated opening hours before you embark on this quest, good luck!
If this post helped you in some way and you’d like to buy me a coffee, I’d be incredibly grateful (:
