Itsumo Tart is a quaint dessert cafe specializing in tarts, tea and soft serve ice cream. With two outlets across the country, the one my husband, our friends and I visited was located in Batam near Grand Batam shopping mall. After a stint of back-to-back cafe-hopping the day before, we managed to squeeze in one last run here before the end of our trip.

- Our order:
- Signature cheese tart (140,000++) x2
- Hojicha tart (160,000++)
- Matcha red bean tart (170,000++)
- Hokkaido milk tea tart (170,000++)
- Noir 73.5% Belgian dark chocolate tart (200,000++)
- Seasonal hojicha soft serve (40,000++) x2
- T2 french earl grey cold brew tea (38,000++)
- TWG white house tea (42,000++)
- Spent: IDR1,317,000
It was raining heavily when we arrived so from the chaos of rushing out of the car to running under shelter to seek cover, walking into the cafe provided that much needed serenity and reprieve. I was completely captivated by the Japanese-inspired interior and had to pause to soak it all in. There was a hush and stillness that compelled me to slow down and just be in the moment, which was very refreshing. Tables and seats were scarce though, so it seemed like more of a grab-and-go cafe.
Dining in would incur an additional 5% service charge but this was well worth it as service here was wonderful. It was like a combination of Japanese courtesy and Thai hospitality. The staff taking our orders was incredibly patient as we were taking a long time to come together to decide. I felt so bad for her that she had to deal with us bantering back and forth within the group, but amazingly, she did so with a smile that conveyed both grace and understanding. Even my exchanges with them on Instagram were full of warmth and good vibes ❤

I was so glad we came here with a big enough group such that we could order pretty much all the tarts from the menu to try! Every tart was executed perfectly, presenting with a crumbly, buttery tart base and a smooth, light creamy filling. I enjoyed the ones with more subtle flavours like the signature and hojicha tarts but the others that had more intense flavours were delicious too.
My husband and one of our friends wanted to try their standard cream cheese soft serve but they ran out of this flavour, leaving only the option of their seasonal soft serve (which happened to be hojicha that day). It tasted similar to the tart version of it – nice, not too sweet and with a mild but aromatic hojicha flavour. For drinks, we ordered some refreshing and palate-cleansing tea to go with our desserts.

My overall rating of the experience: 4 out of 5 stars. Truth be told, this would’ve been an undisputed 5-star rating but the only issue was that the tarts here were really expensive. I guess one way to shave off some of the costs is to order it as take-out to avoid the extra 5% service charge. Aside from this fact, if you’re totally fine with splurging a little, I would highly recommend visiting this cafe. Quality menu items, a comforting zen ambience and stellar service from the staff. All the tarts we tried were beautifully done and tasted great, go for the signature or hojicha tarts if you prefer lighter flavour profiles!
If this post helped you in some way and you’d like to buy me a coffee, I’d be incredibly grateful (:
