My husband generally prefers accommodations that have character so while browsing Airbnb, he came across this option and was immediately taken by it. As such, we decided to begin our Bangkok trip by staying here for the first night. Plus points for the fact that it’s a mere stone’s throw away from Hua Lamphong MRT station.

- Inclusions:
- 1-night stay in Private Studio Room
- Spent: THB2,310
Check-in
We checked in much later than expected as we were stuck in peak-hour traffic from the airport for about 2.5 hours. Upon arriving at about 7.45pm, the helpful staff at the reception counter brought our luggage up to the room and showed us how to use the access locks with our key cards. He shared that later in the night, the various access doors will be locked so it was important that we bring our key cards along with us if we were heading out.

Room
Our room was a quaint and cosy one on level 3 that had a pretty cool-looking bluetooth speaker. The sheets and towels were clean and the room didn’t appear to have any cleanliness issues. I loved that the bed was super firm and they even had two types of pillows to choose from! Some 5-star hotels don’t even offer pillow options so I was really impressed. In addition, bottled water, disposable toothbrushes and toothpastes, as well as plenty of functioning USB charging points were readily available in the room. You will need to bring your own tissues though as these weren’t provided.

Alas, the ensuite bathroom was a little less appealing as it was tiny and had an unpleasant sewage smell that wafted into the room from time to time. There was a pungent citrus air freshener atop the cistern that did little to alleviate the situation. I also found (and squished) a drain fly that landed on the sink while I was using it, and not forgetting the concerning light pink stains on the bottom of the shower curtains

Facilities
This hostel is full of inviting common spaces with comfy plush seats and funky hipster decor, perfect for hanging out and connecting with other guests. At the back of the property on level 1, you can find the kitchen, the pantry and a laundry corner. In the lobby, my husband got down to strumming some tunes on the communal guitar placed there.

The top floor of the property is a breezy rooftop garden, which is the level above our floor. From the photos on their Instagram page, it seems like a plethora of curated pay-as-you-wish activities are held here.

Through an inconspicuous door next to the reception area is a small cafe that provides breakfast for in-house guests at a fee. We didn’t give this a go as we had already planned to make our way to our next accommodation bright and early.

Interestingly, there is also a massage parlour called Samatha Massage Spa situated just adjacent to the hostel, where in-house guests can enjoy special discounted rates.

My overall rating of the experience: 4 out of 5 stars. Our room was comfortable, modern and well-furnished (although my husband did lament the lack of cushy seating space). They had very adequate provisions that I didn’t expect, like the toothbrushes, toothpastes and additional face towels. It was a fuss-free check-in and check-out process with polite and helpful staff. Not to mention the many lovely nooks and communal spaces for relaxing in throughout the property. The bathroom was probably the main letdown given that there were drain flies and an unpleasant sewage stench. Also, for a hostel in Bangkok, this was a little on the pricey side. Having said that, we actually wanted to get one of the bigger rooms but unfortunately, it was unavailable during our stay dates. Nevertheless, it was a very decent stay and it definitely changed my mind that hostels can be alluring too!
If this post helped you in some way and you’d like to buy me a coffee, I’d be incredibly grateful (:
