While my husband was researching for places to visit on our trip to Johor Bahru, he came across this restaurant recommendation on Google and exclaimed without hesitation that we had to go. This particular outlet we visited is located at Taman Sentosa, a 10-minute car ride from DoubleTree By Hilton Hotel where we were staying. They have other outlets at Taman Molek and Vervocity at Indahpura Kulai too, so double-check to make sure you’re headed to the right address!

- Our order:
- Dry mee hoon kuey (9.90++)
- Ham pizza toast (8.90++)
- Hot signature kopi (3.50++)
- Half-boiled eggs (2.90++)
- Spent: MYR28.20
The open-air restaurant was clean and spacious with lots of seating available. I liked that the interiors, fittings and furniture looked modern, very inviting indeed. I guess the only downside is that if it was a really warm day, you wouldn’t be able to get much respite here unless you were seated directly under or in front of a fan.
The staff here were very friendly and proactive. When I stood up from my seat to start taking photos of the restaurant, one of them approached me to check if anyone had taken our order already. I thought it was nice of that staff to make sure we were taken care of.

After perusing the pretty extensive menu, my husband opted for the dry mee hoon kuey that came doused in black sauce. It was quite delicious as there was a good mix of textures and the sauce was tasty. However, it did get a tad starchy for me after a while, I definitely wouldn’t be able to finish this portion on my own.

My husband also got the hot signature kopi, his classic go-to drink. This was smooth and rich without being overly bitter, very enjoyable. On the other hand, my ham pizza toast was rather mediocre. It seemed like they didn’t heat up the cheese long enough for it to melt so I felt like I was eating refrigerated cheese clumps.

As we were still feeling peckish, we added another order of half-boiled eggs (comprising two eggs). My husband created his own condiment concoction by combining the red chilli that came with his mee hoon kuey with the regular soy sauce and pepper, yummy!

My overall rating of the experience: 4 out of 5 stars. A simple, clean and modern restaurant with a wide selection of fairly-priced food and beverages on the menu. Staff were also polite and ready to assist when needed. The signature kopi is a must-try! As for the food we ordered, it seemed like the local dishes were better executed than the more “western” dishes. Note to self to leave more room in my tummy before coming again the next time so we can try a greater variety of dishes!
If this post helped you in some way and you’d like to buy me a coffee, I’d be incredibly grateful (:

All well and good what about food being HALAL or not
