In my search for places to get a good massage, Thai Imperial Spa came well-recommended on a few websites and reviews. At the time of our visit, they had three outlets across Johor Bahru that we could choose from. Plaza DNP was the newest and most promising outlet based on the few photos I saw from the official website.
I couldn’t find many reviews online about this specific outlet at that time as it was really brand new. As a result, I was still a little hesitant to make a reservation because official photos can sometimes be a tad misleading. It was only after I requested for and saw actual photos provided by the staff over WhatsApp that I had more confidence to make a booking!

- Inclusions:
- 70-minute Thai oil massage for 2
- Spent: MYR190
Having checked out the prices online for the 60-minute massages prior to our visit, we were pleasantly surprised to find that there was an opening promotion offering a slightly cheaper price for a longer massage duration (yay!). However, apparently the oil massage was different from the aromatherapy oil massage, which required an additional MYR12 for a choice of your preferred fragrance. We both ended up sticking with the oil massage and settled our payment before our treatment commenced.

We received a brief foot wash with soap before heading up the stairs to the treatment room. It turned out to be one big room with mere curtains as partitions. A little more cleaning was needed in the dusty corners of the space but it was generally hygienic.
My masseuse (they go by numbers instead of names so her number was 50) used a comfortable, soft pressure most of the time and skillfully worked out the knots in my shoulders and back. She intuitively avoided my stomach area even without me asking her to (I only realized this happened when my husband said his massage included it). She also checked with me first whether I wanted to be “cracked” like my husband (to which I said no, of course). The only thing was that she was occasionally inconsistent with the techniques across both limbs but other than that, I felt she was quite in tune with my preferences. My husband’s masseuse (number 608) was pretty good too, leaving him feeling very refreshed after his regular-pressure massage.

Once we were done, we headed back down to the reception area and were brought some tea and yummy tea eggs to enjoy.

My overall rating of the experience: 4 out of 5 stars. Generally, the spaces were clean and well-maintained, and the linen looked hygienic. We had competent masseuses (number 50 and 608) who were able to cater to our preferences well. If we were to visit again, we can simply quote their assigned numbers to request for them. One element that I wasn’t the most comfortable with was that the massage beds were all in one room divided only by curtains (I would’ve liked a solid-walled room for more privacy). Also, there was but a tiny locker next to the bed for our valuables. Mine was unfortunately missing its key so I had to squeeze my valuables in my husband’s locker instead. I didn’t feel safe leaving them lying around, especially with just curtains for barriers. These things aside, the whole experience was still worth it given the reasonable prices.
If this post helped you in some way and you’d like to buy me a coffee, I’d be incredibly grateful (:
