Opening its doors back in 2017, this 4-star hotel was the first of the Courtyard brand to be established in Singapore. It is located right above Royal Square shopping mall and easily accessible via the Novena train station. In the vicinity, there is a medical hub and a number of other shopping malls as well.
I remember wanting to check this hotel out each time I passed through the Novena area but as it is more of a no-frills property that doesn’t have many amenities, it wasn’t as high up on my priority list. However, during one of Trip.com’s sales, the price of a room-only stay was pretty reasonable after applying a promo code, so what better time to give it a shot!

Check-in
Taking the lift up to level 22, my husband and I were greeted by the reception staff as they checked us in and informed us that our room was ready. This reception area is a narrow and elongated space with a relatively tall ceiling and plenty of sunlight. The Lobby Lounge deli, which was closed during our visit, can be found just beside the reception counters.

Room
Our room on level 29 (out of 32 guest room levels) was a fairly compact space but it was functionally sufficient and clean. Most of the rooms here seem to be the same size, with the main difference being the view and the level. Ours was facing the city, and when we squinted our eyes a little, we could see the vague silhouette of the iconic Marina Bay Sands in the distance. As my husband explored the room, he discovered the cleverly hidden wardrobe behind the sliding door next to the bed. A neat space-saving design indeed.
As for the sleeping conditions, I felt the mattress topper was way too mushy, making the bed less firm than what I would’ve preferred (it caused a little soreness in my back). The promptly delivered firm pillow I requested for was great though. Do note that turndown service isn’t provided here.

Facilities
Up on level 33 is where you’ll find the infinity pool (a tad reminiscent of the one at The Clan Hotel) and Las Palmas Rooftop Bar. I really like the open, colourful and eclectic design of these spaces, creating a fun tropical vibe in an otherwise rather business-centric environment. The pink outdoor day beds were also extremely cosy and inviting, providing a little more privacy without sacrificing access to the breathtaking panoramas of the city.

For those of you looking for a workout, the gym situated on level 22 is unfortunately super tiny with limited equipment options. You do get to enjoy the amazing city skyline as consolation though.

Sky22 is the hotel’s main restaurant specializing in Western and local cuisine. Open daily from 6.30am to 10.30pm, guests are treated to a bright and breezy ambience with a feeling of dining in the sky, thanks to the large windows that draw the sweeping vistas in.

My overall rating of the experience: 4 out of 5 stars. We had a clean, fuss-free and well-maintained room that was comfortable despite its small size. The common spaces were also modern and had a touch of simple elegance. I was especially drawn to the vibrant tropical feel of the infinity pool and bar area on the rooftop! As the entire hotel occupies the very top floors of the building it is in (level 22 onwards), you’re pretty much guaranteed fantastic views wherever you go. The staff were pleasant too, always conveying a readiness to assist whenever we approached them. In sum, this is a really decent option if you’re looking for a slightly cheaper accommodation that’s a couple of train stations away from the city centre. It’s probably as good as it gets for a 4-star hotel!
If this post helped you in some way and you’d like to buy me a coffee, I’d be incredibly grateful (:
