Situated on level 4 of Lot 10 shopping mall, The Tokyo Restaurant is a casual dining venue that specializes in Japanese fusion cuisine. This was a must-visit for my husband and I on our weekend trip to Kuala Lumpur as I wanted to support my friend who sells the popular BASK. cheesecakes here!

- Our order:
- Shoyu spiced chicken set lunch (MYR35++)
- Jasmine green tea (MYR5++)
- BASK. cheesecake (MYR21++)
- BASK. cheesecake takeaway (MYR115++ for 5 slices)
- Spent: MYR192.65
As we walked through the main entrance to an enclave of specialty restaurants, we were greeted by a soft wave of billowing red fabrics lining the ceiling, creating a very enchanting vibe. The Tokyo Restaurant is located to the right of this entrance.
Inside, the ambience was inviting with its warm lighting and Japanese-inspired decor. There is also a bar right out front if you’re just looking to get drinks. Given the restaurant’s popularity and the limited seating space, it is recommended that you make a prior reservation to avoid long wait times. Also, they have separate lunch and dinner menus so do check these out on the website to decide when to head down. We went during the lunch service that runs from 11am to 3pm, while the dinner service starts from 6pm.

Still full from our breakfast at Four Seasons Hotel, we opted to share a shoyu spiced chicken set lunch, which includes a free bowl of miso soup. The main dish comprised pan-seared chicken, mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, homemade sambal sauce, garlic lemon soy sauce and Japanese white rice. Even though the cut of the chicken was quite thick, it was nicely cooked through and the insides remained juicy and succulent. The rice, however, had too hard a texture to be enjoyable. As for the miso soup, it was more flavourful than we expected as it had a slightly thicker-than-usual consistency with chopped mushrooms inside. It tasted savoury yet light and comforting, one bowl was definitely not enough.
Last but not least, the sole reason for this visit – the BASK. cheesecake! These are fusion Basque-Japanese specialty cheesecakes that come in two flavours: original and Yuri matcha. We ordered the original one and it came with a scoop of whipped cream. This tasted divine, the perfect combination of a Basque cheesecake’s burnt exterior and a Japanese cheesecake’s light and smooth interior. I loved that it had a firm but airy texture without being too sweet. I’m not usually a fan of fusion food but this one certainly won me over ❤

My overall rating of the experience: 5 out of 5 stars. Lovely ambience, delicious food at fairly reasonable prices, amazing BASK. cheesecake dessert – it was a fantastic lunch indeed. The staff were efficient and helpful too, answering our queries about the menu in such a patient manner. My only regret was not coming here on an emptier stomach so that we could try more of the items. As we wanted to show our appreciation for the Four Seasons Hotel staff who took such good care of us during our stay, we bought them slices of the BASK. cheesecake to share the joy! These takeaway cheesecakes didn’t incur the 10% dine-in service charge but there was an additional MYR2+ per takeaway box (it even comes with a special slot for a container of whipped cream). We might just come back again to check out the dinner menu the next time!
If this post helped you in some way and you’d like to buy me a coffee, I’d be incredibly grateful (:
