On our previous trip to Kuala Lumpur, my husband and I really enjoyed ourselves at Breakout Escape’s Avenue K outlet! And since we were staying at Alila Bangsar Hotel for this trip, we decided to support them again at their NU Sentral outlet.
We bought tickets directly from their website using a return promo code which we got from our last visit (15% off for subsequent games played within 30 days) so that was pretty neat. This time, we managed to pack in bookings for 5 rooms in total (I would’ve booked all of them had the remaining two not been scary or creepy).

- Inclusions:
- Dreadnought room (MYR85 for 2 pax) – no longer available
- Perpetual room (MYR85 for 2 pax)
- Terraform room (MYR85 for 2 pax)
- The Testament of Tesla room (MYR85 for 2 pax)
- The War for Rembrandt (MYR85 for 2 pax)
- Spent: MYR425
One unique feature of Breakout Escape is the menu of special abilities, where every player gets to choose a special ability to be used during the game! These work the same way as the ones at the Avenue K outlet (more details on this in my previous post). As usual, our go-to picks were Oracle and Lightbringer, the latter being a must if the rooms have some portions that are without light.

We began with the Dreadnought room (which is sadly no longer available), whose storyline had an intriguing plot twist that we had to discover along the way. One of the tasks involved one person having to crawl into a fairly small space to retrieve something so make sure there’s at least one person in your group who isn’t claustrophobic!
The second room we tried was Perpetual. We were thieves tasked with stealing an artefact but this story also ends with a very interesting twist. You will have to choose one of two options at the very end, resulting in different endings. This room does involve quite a bit of physicality like climbing ladders and shifting large, rather heavy metal boxes. There was one puzzle that was unnecessarily tedious though, so the Lock Master ability would’ve really come in handy for that.

Our third room was Terraform, where we were part of an astronaut team sent to do research on Mars to find a solution to save mankind but were forced to evacuate due to an unexpected collision. Midway through the game, there was one of those logic puzzles that typically shuts my brain down from even trying, but I was super proud of myself for pushing through to solve it with my husband 😀 I also thought it was pretty cool that the final decision after solving the last puzzle affected the physical outcome of the game!
The next day, we returned to try the fourth room, The Testament of Tesla. As the storyline goes, we are descendants of Tesla tasked to release his alternative clean energy source to a world that has run out of natural energy resources. This room requires a keen eye for detail and astute observation, plus it helps to have fast reflexes too.

Last but not least was The War for Rembrandt room. Here, we took on the role of rebels trying to recover an art piece in a world where art and literature had been banished. I had a lot of fun with the physical version of the well-known Rush Hour game but with added difficulty. I thought it a rather ingenious modification (:
The staff were fantastic as usual – a special shout-out to Reuben who performed his role of game master so enthusiastically! He took us through Terraform and Perpetual (which happens to be his favourite room because of its well-designed storyline). Additionally, because we managed to escape some of the rooms within the time limit, we were given Oracle and Lightbringer badges as souvenirs, a nice way to remember our experience here ❤

My overall rating of the experience: 5 out of 5 stars. As expected, we were treated to an array of very solid, well-thought-out puzzles just like the ones at their Avenue K outlet! I don’t usually pay attention to how the rooms are set up but the ones here really made me sit up and notice – from the space shuttle on Mars, to the scientist’s lab, to the old-fashioned train cabin. It was clear that so much effort and investment went into making it as immersive an experience as possible, kudos to the team for that! The rooms here were less dusty and better maintained than the ones at Avenue K so that was a delight too. Be sure to come early before your time slot to select your special abilities and properly strategize with your team, but regardless, the friendly staff are ever-ready to offer assistance where needed. Given that some new rooms have popped up since our last visit, it might be good enough reason for another return trip here (:
If this post helped you in some way and you’d like to buy me a coffee, I’d be incredibly grateful (:
