Searching for a lunch spot near our accommodation, Courtyard By Marriott Hotel Phuket Town, my husband and I decided on Cafe Dim Sum restaurant since it was literally right outside, plus it had good ratings on Google. On the menu was a decent variety of local Thai food, western cuisine and Chinese dim sum.

- Our order:
- Tom yum instant noodles with pork (THB60)
- Pork porridge (THB60) with soft-boiled eggs (THB30)
- Iced Thai milk tea (THB35)
- Truffle shrimp dumplings (THB150)
- Custard bun (THB35)
- Cheese tofu (THB35)
- Spent: THB395
Inside was a pretty clean-looking, open-air space with an eclectic mix of furniture. Despite its makeshift vibe, the lights and decor added a cosy touch to the place. The main issue was that there were relentless houseflies landing on us, but this was largely resolved once the staff switched on the standing fan to blow it in our direction.

For mains, I ordered a pork porridge (THB60) with soft-boiled eggs (THB30). This was lovely comfort food, with the thinly sliced ginger strips adding a little spice and texture. My husband had the tom yum instant noodles with pork (THB60), which was spicy and flavourful. He paired this with an iced Thai milk tea (THB35) just in case it was too spicy.

We also ordered some dim sum to try but these turned out to be rather disappointing. The custard bun (THB35) was clumpy instead of fluffy, and the custard itself was solidified instead of being runny. The truffle shrimp dumplings (THB150) had mushy fillings with an unpleasant pasty texture. After trying one dumpling, we left the other two alone. The cheese tofu (THB35) tasted standard, just like the frozen ones you get from the supermarket.

My overall rating of the experience: 3 out of 5 stars. It was great that this restaurant was situated so close to our lodging, making it a convenient spot for us. The prices were very affordable and staff were generally friendly too, though not the most proficient in English. However, it wasn’t particularly fun contending with the persistent houseflies attempting to land on us and our food. Also, it might be best to stick to the Thai food here as dim sum doesn’t seem to be their strong suit based on the items we tried. With that said, if what you’re looking for is cheap and fuss-free local food, this would be a satisfactory option, especially if you’re staying at the nearby Courtyard By Marriott Hotel Phuket Town.
If this post helped you in some way and you’d like to buy me a coffee, I’d be incredibly grateful (:
