Going to a spa to relax and feel pampered is one of the top activities I look forward to the most on my holidays. The thing is, I was never fond of such experiences because I tend to get squirmish and uncomfortable when massaged, until my husband persuaded me to try one in Vietnam on our holiday a few years ago. It was awesome and there was no turning back after that, so here we are!
This spa was one of the highly rated spas on TripAdvisor, and I must say the reviews were absolutely spot on. It is located within Grandmas Plus Hotel. Just a note that this hotel is situated along an expressway with the nearest U-turn roundabout being a sizeable distance away, so we had to wait quite a long while for our Grab/Go-Jek drivers to pick us up.

When we arrived at the spa, they offered us a welcome drink and a cold towel (the weather was intensely hot). Their packages were designed in a form of a food menu, where we got to choose one treatment from each of the starter, mains and dessert components. That’s 3 treatments in total spanning two hours for the price of IDR225,000 per person (INSANE value!). I chose the aloe vera express facial, the balinese massage and the rose petal body scrub.
We then filled up a form to indicate our preferences on the parts of our bodies we would like our masseuses to focus on and to avoid. This is really important for me as it reduces the chances of an unpleasant, teeth-gritting massage experience that brings me back to the old days of my endurance training sessions.
After selecting our massage oils, we were brought to a couple massage room and given a foot scrub with refreshing citrus fruits. The smell was just heavenly (: The room included a safe for our personal belongings, and the towels/linen looked clean and hygienic (changed out after every guest). The massage beds were comfortable and not too hard.

After our treatments, we rinsed off in the en suite bathroom with a hot shower, soap and shampoo included. The bathroom was clean and sufficiently comfortable. Something I really appreciated was that the staff allowed us to take our time to shower and get dressed instead of constantly checking on us, which we’ve experienced in other spas before.

To end off the spa experience, the staff served us hot tea with a slice of watermelon. The spa manager came over to ask us whether we were satisfied with the services. We were so impressed with everything that we decided to book a second visit two days later on the spot. This time, we chose the natural yoghurt mask body wrap for our dessert component. My husband (and his sunburnt legs from surfing) thoroughly enjoyed the yoghurt wrap, it brought his skin a great deal of relief.
My overall rating of the experience: 5 out of 5 stars. The products and services were excellent, the staff were professional and skilled, the facilities were clean and pleasant. I really appreciated the level of customization and choice they offered us, as well as the attention given to the little details, like recommending which massage goes with which scrub/mask and reconfirming our preferences from the forms we filled to ensure that they got it correct. On top of all this, the prices we paid were extremely reasonable for a 2-hour package like this, a lot more affordable and value for money than the other top-rated spas. Sooo good that we had to come back again within the same trip (that’s twice in the span of our short 5-day holiday in Bali)!
